Introduction to Functional Training

Dec 10th, 2011

MDWorkout – Functional training refers to performing multi-movement based exercises (plyometrics or calisthenics). Functional training integrates balance, agility, strength and aerobic exercises into a fluid movement. The participant should have a level of fitness that allows them to safely and effectively perform the routines. Due to the increase in movements and intensity of the workout it is recommended that a participant only perform Functional exercises after becoming proficient in each of the above fitness areas independently and collectively.

Functional training is an effective means of performing whole-body conditioning. It is often used for sports training. One of the main benefits of Functional training is a high-intensity strength and aerobics workout.

Functional Training with a certified personal trainer, or participation in a certified functional group training program, can provide encouragement and improved workout results.
